Bingo and Oklahoma: Two birds of a feather
Sunday, 21. July 2019
Oklahoma has long been synonymous with Bingo. That is owing to the fact that the Amerindian tribes of Oklahoma have run Bingo games for decades. Guests from many of the neighboring states load up in vans and travel into Oklahoma to play Bingo for the weekends.
The 1988 IGRA was introduced after a precedent setting ruling by The U.S. Supreme Court the year before. From that time, 23 of the thirty nine Amerindian tribes of Oklahoma have opened gaming halls. The Chickasaw were the initial Oklahoma Indian band to take advantage of the betting rules, and today control ten casinos of their very own. Bingo was the game on which these casinos were built on. Electronic games such as slot machines were not allowed, due to the fact that they are thought to contribute to gambling addiction at a higher rate than bingo.
In recent years, Oklahoma law has altered to allow for gigantic American Indian betting gambling halls. You’ll now see American Indian casinos with slots, video poker and chemin de fer tables. Craps and roulette are still not authorized in the Amerindian gambling dens yet, but this is only a waiting game. Nobody can authority what having different games in the bingo parlors will do for the popularity of bingo.
