Might the Cigarette Ban in England Take Bingo Players On to the Web?
Wednesday, 30. September 2020
A lot has been talked in the press just a while ago about the bingo industry being hit because of the anti cigarette law in Britain. Things have become so poor that in Scotland the Bingo industry has requested huge tax breaks to assist in keeping the industry afloat. But will the internet version of this classic game present a lifeline, or might it not compare to its bricks and mortar kin?
Bingo is an enduring game historically played by the "blue rinse" generation. Although the game recently had seen a recent comeback in acceptance with younger members of society deciding to visit the bingo halls in place of the discos on a Friday night. This is all about to get flipped on its head with the introduction of the anti smoking law all over United Kingdom.
Players will no longer be allowed to puff on cigarettes at the same time marking numbers. Starting in the summer of 2007 every public area will not be allowed to permit cigarettes in their locations and this includes Bingo halls, one of the most favorite locations where folks enjoy smoking.
The outcome of the anti cigarette law can already be seen in Scotland where smoking is already illegal in the bingo halls. Players have plummeted and the business is literally struggling for its life. But where have all the players gone? Of course they have not given up on this enduring game?
The answer is on the internet. People are now realizing that they can enjoy bingo in front of their computer while enjoying a cocktail and fag and in the end, enjoy huge cash rewards. This is a recent development and has timed itself bordering on perfect with the ban on smoking.
Of course betting on on the internet is unlikely to replace the collective aspect of going over to the bingo parlor, but for a group of players the rules have left many bingo players with no alternative.
