Will the Anti Smoking Law in England Take Bingo Enthusiasts Online?
Friday, 1. July 2022
An abundance has been written in the press not long ago about the bingo industry struggling as a consequence of the cigarette ban in Britain. Things have become so poor that in Scotland the Bingo industry has demanded massive aid to assist in keeping the industry from going bankrupt. However can the net adaptation of this quintessential game offer a reprieve, or might it never compare to its bricks and mortar equivalent?
Bingo has been an classic game usually enjoyed by the "blue rinse" generation. However the game of late had undergone a recent increase in popularity with younger people opting to go to the bingo halls in place of the clubs on a Friday night. All this is about to get flipped on its head with the introduction of the anti smoking law across United Kingdom.
Players will no longer be able to puff on cigarettes while marking off their numbers. Starting in the summer of ‘07 every public location will no longer be allowed to permit smoking in their venues and this includes Bingo parlours, which are possibly the most favorite locations where folks like to puff on cigarettes.
The results of the cigarette ban can already be looked at in Scotland where cigarettes are already prohibited in the bingo parlors. Numbers have plummeted and the business is absolutely fighting for its life. But where have all the players gone? Certainly they haven’t cast aside this enduring game?
The answer is on the internet. Players know that they can enjoy bingo in front of their computer at the same time enjoying a drink and smoke and in the end, have a chance at massive jackpots. This is a recent development and has timed itself almost perfectly with the ban on cigarettes.
Of course gambling on on the net can never replace the collective part of going over to the bingo parlor, but for a group of men and women the governing edicts have left a good many bingo enthusiasts with little alternative.
