Might the Cigarette Ban in England Drive Bingo Players On to the Internet?

An abundance has been reported in the papers recently about the bingo industry being hurt as a result of the smoking ban in the UK. Conditions have become so poor that in Scotland the Bingo industry has asked for huge aid to assist in keeping the industry from going bankrupt. But can the web adaptation of this classic game provide a lifeline, or will it never compare to its land based peer?

Bingo has been an established game historically enjoyed by the "blue rinse" generation. However the game recently had undergone a recent comeback in popularity with younger members of society deciding to visit the bingo parlors in place of the bars on a Saturday night. All this is about to be reversed with the enacting of the anti cigarette law throughout United Kingdom.

No more will gamblers be permitted to puff on cigarettes at the same time dabbing numbers. From the summer of 2007 all public areas will no longer be permitted to allow cigarettes in their buildings and this includes Bingo halls, which are possibly the most popular areas where many people like to puff on cigarettes.

The effects of the anti smoking law can already be observed in Scotland where cigarettes are already prohibited in the bingo parlors. Profits have plunged and the industry is beyond a doubt struggling for to stay alive. But where have all the players gone? Certainly they haven’t given up on this age old game?

The answer is on the net. Gamblers realise that they can play bingo from their computer while enjoying a drink and smoke and in the end, enjoy monstrous prizes. This is a recent phenomenon and has timed itself almost perfectly with the anti smoking law.

Of course playing on the internet could never replace the collective portion of going over to the bingo parlour, but for a group of men and women the rules have left a good many bingo enthusiasts with no choice.
