Much has been written in the press not long ago regarding the bingo industry struggling as a consequence of the anti smoking law in the United Kingdom. Things have grown so poor that in Scotland the Bingo industry has requested huge aid to assist in keeping the businesses afloat. However does the web variation of this traditional game offer a escape, or might it in no way compare to its real life relative?

Bingo is an age old game generally played by the "blue haired" generation. For all that the game recently had experienced a recent resurgence in popularity with younger people opting to visit the bingo halls rather than the clubs on a weekend. All this is about to be reversed with the enforcement of the anti cigarette law throughout England and Wales.

Players will no longer be permitted to puff on cigarettes while marking off their numbers. Starting in the summer of 2007 every public place will not be allowed to permit cigarettes in their buildings and this includes Bingo halls, which are possibly the most favorite locations where players like to puff on cigarettes.

The outcome of the anti smoking law can already be seen in Scotland where cigarettes are already not permitted in the bingo parlours. Players have plunged and the industry is absolutely fighting for to stay alive. But where did the players go? Of course they haven’t deserted this age old game?

The answer is on the web. Players realise that they can wager on bingo using their computer whilst enjoying a beverage and fag and still enjoy monstrous cash rewards. This is a recent development and has timed itself almost perfectly with the ban on cigarettes.

Of course playing on the web could never replace the social aspect of going down to the bingo parlor, but for a group of people the law has left a number of bingo players with no alternative.
