Much has been written in the press just a while ago concerning the bingo industry being hurt as a consequence of the anti smoking law in England. Things have become so poor that in Scotland the Bingo industry has demanded massive aid to assist in keeping the industry from going bankrupt. But can the internet variation of this traditional game offer a lifeline, or will it in no way compare to its land based equivalent?

Bingo is an classic game normally enjoyed by the "blue haired" generation. However the game of late had seen a recent increase in acceptance with younger people opting to visit the bingo parlors instead of the clubs on a weekend. This is all about to be reversed with the enforcement of the anti cigarette law throughout United Kingdom.

Players will no longer be permitted to smoke at the same time marking numbers. From the summer of ‘07 every public place will not be allowed to permit cigarettes in their venues and this includes Bingo parlours, which are possibly the most favored locations where players like to smoke.

The effects of the smoking ban can already be felt in Scotland where cigarettes are already illegal in the bingo parlors. Profits have dropped and the industry is absolutely fighting for its life. But where did the players go? Surely they have not abandoned this enduring game?

The answer is on the net. People know that they can wager on bingo from their computer whilst enjoying a beverage and cigarette and still have a chance at monstrous cash rewards. This is a recent phenomenon and has timed itself almost perfectly with the ban on cigarettes.

Of course betting on on the web is unlikely to replace the communal aspect of heading down to the bingo parlor, but for a demographic of people the governing edicts have left a good many bingo players with little alternative.
