An abundance has been talked in the papers recently about the bingo industry being hurt as a consequence of the smoking ban in the United Kingdom. Things have grown so awful that in Scotland the Bingo industry has demanded massive aid to help keep the businesses afloat. However does the web variation of this traditional game provide a reprieve, or might it never compare to its land based peer?

Bingo has been an ancient game normally enjoyed by the "blue rinse" generation. Although the game recently had experienced a recent return in popularity with younger members of society deciding to go to the bingo parlours instead of the bars on a Friday night. All this is about to be destroyed with the legislating of the cigarette ban throughout Britain.

No longer will gamblers be permitted to smoke at the same time dabbing numbers. Starting in the summer of ‘07 all public places will not be permitted to allow cigarettes in their buildings and this includes Bingo halls, which are possibly the most popular places where folks enjoy smoking.

The effects of the anti smoking law can already be looked at in Scotland where smoking is already not allowed in the bingo parlors. Numbers have plummeted and the industry is beyond a doubt struggling for its life. But where did all the players go? Of course they haven’t cast aside this classic game?

The answer is online. Players know that they can bet on bingo in front of their computer whilst enjoying a beverage and smoke and still enjoy monstrous prizes. This is a recent development and has happened almost perfectly with the ban on cigarettes.

Of course gambling on online can never replace the social portion of going down to the bingo parlor, but for a group of people the rules have left many bingo players with no alternative.
