Might the Smoking Ban in Britain Take Bingo Players On to the Net?

An abundance has been stated in the papers recently regarding the bingo industry struggling because of the smoking ban in Britain. Conditions have grown so bad that in Scotland the Bingo industry has asked for massive aid to help keep the industry afloat. However will the online variation of this traditional game present a salvation, or might it never compare to its real life equivalent?
Bingo has been an enduring game historically played by the "blue haired" generation. However the game lately had undergone a recent return in appeal with younger members of society deciding to hit the bingo parlours instead of the discos on a Friday night. All this is about to get flipped on its head with the introduction of the anti smoking law around United Kingdom.
No more will gamblers be allowed to puff on cigarettes while marking numbers. From the summer of ‘07 all public places will no longer be allowed to permit cigarettes in their buildings and this includes Bingo parlours, which are possibly the most favored areas where folks like to puff on cigarettes.
The outcome of the smoking ban can already be observed in Scotland where smoking is already not allowed in the bingo parlours. Profits have plummeted and the industry is beyond a doubt fighting for its life. But where did the players go? Of course they have not abandoned this familiar game?
The answer is on the internet. Gamblers are now realizing that they can gamble on bingo in front of their computer whilst enjoying a beverage and cig and still enjoy big prizes. This is a recent development and has timed itself bordering on perfect with the ban on cigarettes.
Of course gambling on on the web could never replace the communal aspect of heading down to the bingo parlour, but for a demographic of players the law has left many bingo enthusiasts with no option.
