Will the Smoking Ban in the UK Force Bingo Enthusiasts On to the Internet?

An abundance has been reported in the press recently concerning the bingo industry being hurt as a consequence of the anti cigarette law in the United Kingdom. Conditions have become so awful that in Scotland the Bingo industry has demanded massive tax cuts to help keep the businesses from going bankrupt. However can the online version of this quintessential game present a reprieve, or might it never compare to its bricks and mortar kin?
Bingo is an enduring game usually played by the "blue haired" generation. For all that the game lately had experienced a recent increase in acceptance with younger people deciding to go to the bingo parlours rather than the bars on a weekend. This is all about to be destroyed with the legislating of the anti smoking law across UK.
Players will no longer be allowed to puff on cigarettes while marking numbers. Starting in the summer of 2007 every public location will not be allowed to permit cigarettes in their venues and this includes Bingo parlors, which are possibly the most common areas where people enjoy smoking.
The outcome of the anti cigarette law can already be seen in Scotland where cigarettes are already forbidden in the bingo parlours. Numbers have plunged and the business is beyond a doubt struggling for to stay alive. But where have all the players gone? Surely they haven’t forgotten this age old game?
The answer is on the internet. Players know that they can enjoy bingo in front of their computer at the same time enjoying a cocktail and cigarette and still enjoy huge cash rewards. This is a recent anomaly and has happened almost perfectly with the anti smoking law.
Of course playing on the net is unlikely to replace the collective portion of heading down to the bingo hall, but for a group of men and women the governing edicts have left many bingo players with little alternative.
