Could the Anti Smoking Law in the United Kingdom Drive Bingo Enthusiasts On to the Web?

A lot has been talked in the press recently about the bingo industry singing the blues because of the cigarette ban in the United Kingdom. Things have grown so bad that in Scotland the Bingo industry has asked for big aid to help keep the businesses from going bankrupt. But can the net adaptation of this traditional game present a escape, or might it not compare to its land based equivalent?
Bingo has been an age old game normally enjoyed by the "blue haired" generation. In any case the game recently had seen a recent comeback in acceptance with younger members of society deciding to hit the bingo halls rather than the clubs on a Friday night. All this is about to change with the enacting of the smoking ban all over England and Wales.
No longer will enthusiasts be allowed to puff on cigarettes whilst dabbing numbers. Starting in the summer of ‘07 all public areas will no longer be allowed to permit smoking in their venues and this includes Bingo parlours, which are possibly the most common places where folks like to smoke.
The results of the smoking ban can already be felt in Scotland where cigarettes are already illegal in the bingo halls. Players have plunged and the business is literally fighting for to stay alive. But where did the players go? Obviously they haven’t given up on this age old game?
The answer is online. People know that they can wager on bingo using their computer while enjoying a beer and smoke and in the end, have a chance at monstrous prizes. This is a recent anomaly and has happened almost perfectly with the ban on smoking.
Of course gambling on on the net is unlikely to replace the social portion of heading down to the bingo parlor, but for a demographic of players the rules have left many bingo enthusiasts with no alternative.
