Will the Smoking Ban in England Take Bingo Players On to the Web?

A lot has been stated in the papers recently regarding the bingo industry being hit as a result of the smoking ban in England. Conditions have grown so awful that in Scotland the Bingo industry has demanded huge tax cuts to help keep the businesses from going bankrupt. But will the net adaptation of this traditional game present a escape, or will it never compare to its bricks and mortar peer?

Bingo has been an established game usually played by the "blue rinse" generation. In any case the game of late had undergone a recent comeback in popularity with younger members of society opting to hit the bingo parlors in place of the clubs on a Saturday night. This is all about to get flipped on its head with the enacting of the anti cigarette law around United Kingdom.

No longer will players be permitted to puff on cigarettes whilst marking off their numbers. Beginning in the summer of ‘07 all public locations will no longer be permitted to allow smoking in their locations and this includes Bingo parlours, which are possibly the most common places where people enjoy smoking.

The results of the anti cigarette law can already be observed in Scotland where cigarettes are already not permitted in the bingo parlors. Players have plunged and the industry is beyond a doubt fighting for its life. But where have all the players gone? Obviously they have not given up on this classic game?

The answer is on the web. Players know that they can gamble on bingo in front of their computer at the same time enjoying a cocktail and cigarette and still enjoy massive jackpots. This is a recent development and has happened almost perfectly with the ban on smoking.

Of course betting on on the web is unlikely to replace the social aspect of heading down to the bingo parlour, but for a demographic of players the law has left a number of bingo enthusiasts with no alternative.
