Could the Anti Smoking Law in the UK Drive Bingo Enthusiasts On to the Net?

Much has been stated in the papers not long ago concerning the bingo industry being hit because of the smoking ban in Britain. Things have grown so awful that in Scotland the Bingo industry has called for big tax breaks to assist in keeping the industry from going bankrupt. But will the web version of this quintessential game provide a reprieve, or will it in no way compare to its land based kin?

Bingo is an established game normally enjoyed by the "blue haired" generation. For all that the game lately had witnessed a recent resurgence in appeal with younger men and women opting to go to the bingo halls rather than the discos on a Saturday night. This is all about to change with the enforcement of the anti smoking law throughout Britain.

Players will no longer be allowed to smoke at the same time dabbing numbers. From the summer of ‘07 all public locations will no longer be allowed to permit cigarettes in their venues and this includes Bingo parlours, which are possibly the most popular locations where people enjoy smoking.

The effects of the cigarette ban can already be seen in Scotland where smoking is already illegal in the bingo parlours. Profits have plummeted and the industry is absolutely struggling for its life. But where did the players go? Surely they have not abandoned this established game?

The answer is online. People know that they can play bingo from their computer while enjoying a drink and fag and in the end, enjoy huge cash rewards. This is a recent anomaly and has timed itself just about perfectly with the anti cigarette law.

Of course betting on on the web is unlikely to replace the collective aspect of going down to the bingo parlor, but for a group of men and women the rules have left a lot of bingo enthusiasts with no alternative.
