Will the Smoking Ban in Britain Drive Bingo Enthusiasts On to the Net?
Sunday, 11. August 2024
Much has been reported in the press just a while ago about the bingo industry being hit as a consequence of the anti smoking law in England. Things have grown so bad that in Scotland the Bingo industry has demanded big aid to help keep the businesses from going bankrupt. However can the web version of this traditional game provide a salvation, or might it in no way compare to its real life peer?
Bingo has been an familiar game normally enjoyed by the "blue haired" generation. However the game recently had seen a recent comeback in popularity with younger members of society opting to visit the bingo halls instead of the clubs on a Friday night. This is all about to be destroyed with the enforcement of the smoking ban all over United Kingdom.
Players will no longer be allowed to puff on cigarettes while marking off their numbers. Beginning in the summer of 2007 every public place will not be permitted to allow smoking in their buildings and this includes Bingo parlours, one of the most popular areas where many people enjoy smoking.
The effects of the smoking ban can already be looked at in Scotland where cigarettes are already banned in the bingo parlours. Players have plunged and the industry is absolutely fighting for to stay alive. But where have all the players gone? Certainly they have not abandoned this ancient game?
The answer is online. People know that they can participate in bingo from their computer whilst enjoying a beer and cigarette and still enjoy monstrous prizes. This is a recent development and has timed itself bordering on perfect with the ban on cigarettes.
Of course wagering on on the internet is unlikely to replace the communal aspect of heading over to the bingo parlour, but for a group of players the rules have left a number of bingo enthusiasts with little alternative.
