Oklahoma has long been synonymous with Bingo. That is because the Amerindian tribes of Oklahoma have provided Bingo games for decades. Guests from all of the nearby states pile in autos and visit Oklahoma to enjoy Bingo on the weekends.
The 1988 Indian Gaming Regulatory Act was introduced after a precedent setting decision by The U.S. Supreme Court the year before. Since that time, 23 of the 39 Native bands located in Oklahoma have established bingo halls. The Chickasaw were the first Oklahoma American Indian band to take advantage of the wagering restrictions, and today run 10 gambling halls of their own. Bingo was the game on which the above-mentioned casinos were built on. Electronic games like slot machine games were not permitted, due to the fact that they are believed to contribute to gambling problems at a higher rate than bingo.
In recent years, Oklahoma rules has changed to allow for gigantic Indian betting gambling dens. You’ll now find Native gambling dens with one armed bandits, video poker and 21 tables. Craps and roulette are still not authorized in the American Indian casinos as of yet, although this is simply a matter of time. No one can determine what having other gambling hall games in the bingo houses will do for the popularity of bingo.
