Can the Anti Smoking Law in Britain Force Bingo Players Online?
Tuesday, 21. January 2025
An abundance has been written in the papers just a while ago regarding the bingo industry being hit as a consequence of the cigarette ban in England. Things have grown so poor that in Scotland the Bingo industry has called for massive aid to assist in keeping the businesses alive. But can the internet variation of this classic game offer a lifeline, or might it in no way compare to its real life peer?
Bingo has been an enduring game historically enjoyed by the "blue rinse" generation. For all that the game of late had seen a recent return in acceptance with younger men and women opting to visit the bingo parlours rather than the bars on a Friday night. All this is about to be destroyed with the introduction of the smoking ban throughout England and Wales.
No more will gamblers be able to smoke at the same time marking numbers. Beginning in the summer of ‘07 all public places will not be permitted to allow cigarettes in their locations and this includes Bingo parlors, which are possibly the most favorite areas where folks enjoy smoking.
The effects of the anti smoking law can already be felt in Scotland where cigarettes are already illegal in the bingo halls. Players have plunged and the business is literally struggling for its life. But where did the players go? Of course they haven’t deserted this age old game?
The answer is online. Players realise that they can play bingo from their computer while enjoying a drink and fag and in the end, enjoy big jackpots. This is a recent development and has timed itself bordering on perfect with the ban on cigarettes.
Of course betting on on the net is unlikely to replace the communal portion of heading over to the bingo parlor, but for a demographic of people the governing edicts have left a good many bingo enthusiasts with little option.
