Could the Anti Smoking Law in Britain Drive Bingo Enthusiasts On to the Web?
Wednesday, 2. December 2009
An abundance has been written in the papers just a while ago regarding the bingo industry being hit as a result of the anti smoking law in England. Things have grown so poor that in Scotland the Bingo industry has asked for massive aid to help keep the businesses afloat. But will the internet adaptation of this quintessential game present a salvation, or will it not compare to its land based opposite?
Bingo has been an enduring game generally enjoyed by the "blue haired" generation. Although the game recently had experienced a recent comeback in popularity with younger people deciding to go to the bingo parlours in place of the clubs on a weekend. All this is about to be destroyed with the enacting of the cigarette ban around UK.
Players will no longer be allowed to puff on cigarettes while dabbing numbers. Beginning in the summer of 2007 every public place will no longer be allowed to permit cigarettes in their locations and this includes Bingo parlors, which are possibly the most favorite locations where people enjoy smoking.
The outcome of the anti cigarette law can already be felt in Scotland where cigarettes are already not permitted in the bingo parlors. Players have plummeted and the business is absolutely struggling for to stay alive. But where did the players go? Certainly they have not cast aside this age old game?
The answer is online. Gamblers realise that they can enjoy bingo using their computer at the same time enjoying a cocktail and cigarette and still enjoy big cash rewards. This is a recent development and has timed itself bordering on perfect with the ban on cigarettes.
Of course gambling on on the net could never replace the social portion of going over to the bingo parlour, but for a group of players the rules have left a good many bingo enthusiasts with little choice.
